Pradakshina counts your rounds when you walk around a temple, shows temples on a map and keeps a panchangam calendar. This page explains what it collects, why, and how to have it deleted. It is written plainly on purpose.
Without an account, nothing leaves your phone
Your walks, rounds, temples and settings are stored on your phone. Counting, the map, the calendar and reminders all work offline. If you don't sign in and don't choose to share, the app sends none of your walks to us.
What is collected, and when
| What | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Your walks: date and time, time zone, rounds counted and the number you confirmed, steps, counting mode, path style, the temple's name and map id, app version, phone model and operating system | If you sign in (to back up your journey), or if you choose "Help improve counting" | Backup across phones; measuring and improving counting accuracy |
| Motion sensor readings recorded during a walk, about 1 MB for an hour of walking. Not audio, not location | Only if you choose "Help improve counting", uploaded on Wi-Fi | Replaying real walks to make counting more accurate |
| Name, email and profile picture from Google or Apple | If you sign in | Your account and backup; your name and picture on your profile (public unless you turn "Public profile" off) |
| Temple photos you add, with where each was taken | Only when you add a photo | Showing the temple to others, credited to you. Where it was taken is kept only to confirm it is that temple and is never shown |
| Suggested fixes to temple details | Only when you send one | Correcting the temple map |
| Crash reports: what went wrong in the app, app version, phone model, operating system and a random ID for this installation | When the app crashes or hits an error | Fixing problems. They contain no name, email, location or walks |
What is never collected
Your location while you walk or use the app, contacts, other photos on your phone, audio, and anything from other apps. The map uses your location on your phone only, to show temples near you; it is not sent to us.
Your choices
- Help improve counting is off until you turn it on, and you can turn it off any time in Settings. Only walks shared this way are used to improve counting.
- Public profile can be turned off in Settings.
- You can use the app fully without signing in.
Deleting your data
In the app: Settings, then Your data, then Request deletion. From that moment nothing of yours is used for research, your profile becomes private and the app stops sending anything. We delete your data from our servers within 30 days. Your journey on your phone stays until you uninstall the app. You can also ask on the web, without the app.
Backups of our database are kept for a short time and then expire; deleted data disappears from them when they do.
Who processes the data
- Supabase stores accounts, walks, recordings and photos.
- Sentry receives crash reports.
- Google and Apple handle sign-in when you choose them.
- Temple stories come from Wikipedia and temple photos from Wikimedia Commons; the app asks them for a temple's article or picture when you open that temple, without anything about you.
- Fonts for Indian languages are downloaded once from jsDelivr.
We don't sell your data, show ads, or share it with anyone for their own use.
Children
Pradakshina is not directed at children under 13 and doesn't knowingly collect their data.
